Authors' Ears

Authors' ears
are sensitive
Quivering
at the slightest
change in tone
Sheltering
a whispered secret
or the tiniest of truths
Admiring
a turn of phrase
turned inside out
Cradling
the conversation of strangers
snatched in passing
Tuning in
to the static
of cicadas
Bringing
background noise
to center stage

  1. Oh, I love this. The importance of sharing our writing...and the anxiety our kids feel when they are asked to. I will keep this in mind when I return to my classroom.

  3. Author's ears do tune in to what is going on around them.

  4. Author's ears, what a great term! They need to listen for the story just waiting to be found. What a great poem to share with your students!
